This is my first post. My 10 year old autistic son is low functioning. He was potty trained by age 3. However he regressed a lot over the years and lost his potty skills. He is no longer potty trained. We take him to the rest room every hour and use positive reinforcement. He occasionally goes to the potty by himself and we praise him a lot. The problem is that when he does have an accident we are showing lot of emotions and he seemed to enjoy that. He has very limited speech and communicates mainly to home therapist. When home therapist asked why he is wetting himself, he said "FUN".
He knows that he shouldn''t wet his pants but he still does it. The driving force for his accidents is our reactions. We are reducing our reaction to his accidents.
Did any of you overcome this kind of behavioral issue which is stopping my son to get potty trained? Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance!
