wanna do a trial of L. Reuteri with me?

Postby JeniB » Sat Oct 18, 2008 10:44 am

Info is too compelling on this stuff to not try it to heal the intestines. Please read all the info. The part about the dentrites communicating and training the immune system in colicy infants makes this stuff sound like it would really help our kids. It also has a role in the body's use of B12 which I also found pretty darn interesting... follow the cobalamin link. So, since I haven't seen it mentioned here, I thought it would be great to try it with a few others to see if it benefits or not. It seems pretty harmless I'd imagine it shouldn't hurt at all. I've purchased the brand Primadophillus Reuteri from Natures way, I also have the straws from BioGaia-which I think may be the best route (or the infant drops-they have coconut oil, I can't use those) anyway. here's the info.

Where are you planning on getting your L. Reuteri from? I'm very interested.

I believe that they have it behind the counter at Target and WalMart. The infant drops would probably be the best to use since this was used in the study. I can't use them because my son is allergic to coconut and it's in MCT oil. They also make straws with it inside the straw in rapeseed oil this is what i have. Nature's way has potato starch in it, but it also has rhamsous and acidophillus as well. If I could, I'd use the drops. It does have 5 parts per million casein in it. This is what they told me when I called. But it appears to have worked on infants that were colicy which they think is because of the problems breaking down protein. It is supposed to lengthen the crypts of the microvilli in the small intestines, which is what I find the most helpful.

I just ordered some Nature's Way to try. It is way cheaper. I wonder why. I figure I'll give it a shot.

They had this at the health food store I went to yesterday...I haven't gotten any pro-biotics, but I'm willing to try these. I was considering the straws anyway. Do you just use one straw a day? How many are in a box. I could not tell on the website.

*******This particular strain is called reuteri 17938 also named Reuteri protectis which isn't in a few things we have but is in one, I will be honing in on the one product which I think is only in NZ. (Another make is Biogaia which I have not seen here)*********

Is the recent one in the news. How it go for any of you?

We rotate it in various times of the year. We rotate strains of probiotics with a lot of research and go slow versus give tons of probiotics like we use to. It is a very good strain. We don't really notice die-off anymore from probiotics because we have done so much but we also don't do a ton because in the end her gut has to develop its own flora. I kind of see probiotics now as a really good bandaide. They can help the body restore its own beneficial gut flora but generally they don't take root with some exceptions.
Another one that is on my radar is Just Thrive Probiotic.

If you are new to this give small amounts and follow up before bed with activated charcoal. Binders and new probiotics should go hand in hand.

We use BioGaia infant drops as we try to avoid many ingredients.
