DAN treatment for g6pd deficient kid

Postby MomTogaut » Tue Jan 07, 2014 12:29 pm

Hi all,

My 22m old son is diagnosed with ASD last week. We wanted to start him with DAN treatment. Below are the list of drugs his doctor suggested. My son is g6pd deficient and I want to know if anyone have come across g6pd kids with ASD.

I haven't heard of someone using AKG, but the rest of supplements are typically prescribed to autistic children. What supplement is supposed to address g6pd defficiency? Be careful with DMG, it may cause extreme hyperactivity and tantrums. Be careful with L-Glutathione: when taken orally, it will cause GI yeast overgrowth and behavioral issues.

I would get the Kirkman transdermal glutathione lotion, not the oral one.

A g6pd deficient can't take medications with sulfates.
Unfortunately I didnt find any kid on spectrum with such deficiency.

Here is an abstract of a case series pertaining to autism:

Eur Child Adolesc Psychiatry. 2009 Apr;18(4):227-30. doi: 10.1007/s00787-008-0721-9. Epub 2008 Sep 22.

G6PD deficiency in autism: a case-series from Saudi Arabia.

Al-Salehi SM, Ghaziuddin M.

Abstract

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by a pattern of social and communication deficits. Although it occurs in all cultures and countries, most of the published research has come from Western industrialized countries. In particular, relatively little is known about its clinical correlates and comorbidity in African and Middle Eastern countries. In this paper, we report two cases of G6PD deficiency with autism, recruited as part of a larger study on the occurrence of autism in Saudi Arabia. These findings suggest that a different set of medical conditions may be associated with autism in developing countries.

Here is the blog of a mom who has Asperger's and G6PD deficiency, and her son has autism and G6PD deficiency as well. Perhaps if you contact her she will be able to point you in the direction of some resources:

Before you declare your child G6PD deficient, please have him retested by a different lab. We wasted valuable time and money on either a lab error or a faulty Dr opinion concerning G6PD.

My 3 year old son was diagnosed with Autism last week.
He has G6pd deficiency. At 6 months old he had febrile seizures and then after 2 years 2 more febrile seizures.
I had been wondering if g6pd and autism are connected.
