CHD8

Postby klp834 » Tue Aug 25, 2015 11:11 pm

Hi all,

Just got the news today that DD has a CHD8 mutation which is apparently strongly linked with autism. This is most likely the cause of her autism. The genetic counsellor said from the research she has begun that this is seemingly a random genetic mutation. It is estimated that only about 1% of people with autism have this as the cause.

We have been on our journey since DD (now 4) was 18 months old.

I don't know what to make of this. Or how to take it really, glad to have pinpointed the potential cause of her autism but now what? Maybe this opens the door for more directed therapies?

At a loss really.

Anyone else with this?

Wow, I haven't been on the forum in forever and yet my timing was good by the looks of things.

You may wish to consider participating in the TIGER study being conducted by the University of Washington. They are studying CHD8 and I believe are the ones who made the connection to CHD8 to begin with. There is also a facebook page for those who have CHD8 mutations.
