Hello everyone
I have started taking Probiotic 2 days ago. However, the first day was ok. But the second day I had some reactions. I felt fatigue, confused, lack of concentration, not in the mood. I don't know if I had a reaction to it or if my immune system was overacting to them. I don't know if I should stop them or continue?
I'm 30 years old with mild aspergers syndrom.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Rule #1 with everything is start low and slow or you can get a herxheimer reaction when you body killed more than it can detox.

Each bacteria does a different thing in your body and it could be 100's of reason why you got a reaction, one of the top being that you might have too much histamine and if you take a histamine producing bacteria you can overload your body.

Histamine Modulators / Producers:
Candida
Citrobacter
C. perfringens
E. coli
H. pylori
K. pneumonia
K. oxytoca
Lactobacillus bulgaricus
Lactobacillus casei
Lactobacillus reuteri
Morganella morganii
Proteus mirabilis
Staphylococcus
S. thermophilus

Histamine Degraders:

Bifidobacterium infantis
Bifidobacterium longum
Lactobacillus gasseri
Lactobacillus rhamnosus
Lactobacillus plantarum
Lactobacillus salivarius

Marya, probiotics are a bit of trial and error. Which one did you try?

I tried vsl3 last year and it didn't make much difference.

Thank you CdB for your comment. I think i had too much histamine. The probiotic that I used had Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum and L.bulgaricus
I stopped using it because I didn't feel right and I think I always get high histamine so I don't want to go through that cycle again :(

Marya,

There is a group of us that cannot tolerate most common probiotic formulations because they contain bacteria that generate hydrogen peroxide and lactic acid. This will result in low energy and maybe even symptoms of OCD. My children and I use Culturelle which contains Lactobacillus rhamnosus. This helps us avoid this problem and gives us relief from a constantly "burning" stomache. We can't use anything with Lactobacillus acidophilus because we already have too much of this bacteria. I know of other groups that need to only take probiotics containing bifidobacterium because anything else will increase their already high histamine levels. Everyone is unique and that is not always acknowledged. When you discover who you are it can also help you know what other supplements may be of help to you. For example, if someone is sensitive to hydrogen peroxide producing bacteria they probably need to increase their glutathione peroxidase levels. Hope this helps.

what about acidophilus? Is it histaminergic?

I found out that it is histamine-neutral.
