Children with Starving Brains: A Medical Treatment Guide for Autism Spectrum Disorder.

2nd Edition
Updated 2005

by Jacquelyn McCandless, MD

For those who are considering biomed, or for those who are interested in learning some of the reasons/theories behind biomed, this book is a good place to start. It will help you to understand what many DAN! doctors do and why they do it. It will also provide enough information so that you can be more of a participant in deciding about your child's care and less of a spectator.

I don't personally use it as a "the book to live by", but more as a general guide to understanding... or starting to.

I have just about finished this book
( was going to do a review myself )
and would consider it a must-read for anyone considering bio-med
especially if you are dealing with a Dan doctor

She covers a lot of issues that often come up at these forums
for example, recently someone here asked about Dan Docs immediately recommending chelation in the first session
According to Jacquelyn
No, the doctor should first run a full set of tests
and healing the gut has first priority
not chelation

An excellent book
ours is on loan from a library for people with disabilities
but after reading it
we will be buying it
