Joan Matthews "Self Help Guide for Special kids & P

Ok, i have read A TON of books on autism. I have to say that next to Jacqueline McCandless, Children with starving brains and the Barron book "there's a boy in here", that THIS is the best book i have read to date.

Its an account of Joan Matthews whose son is now 18 and gives lectures on autism all over the country. It is a witty account written by both of them of their lives together growing up with autism. Joan recounts what she did in her "approach" to autism and her son James recalls how he felt at the time she was doing it, and what he thought of it.

Joan is one for "acceptance" of autism, isnt into biomed at all, nor ABA i dont think, but for a first hand account of autism from an autistic boy and some novel ideas, this is a very informative and uplifting read.

Bought it at Amazon for less than 10 bucks.
